Hallelujah! You posted! I can't believe my eyes. *smiles* You have been missed in the blogosphere. Seriously. I didn't want to bug you too much because I knew you were starting the dog training thing and figured you were super busy. Glad you took a few minutes to update.

Happy New Year! And may 2010 be all that you want it to be. :)

P.S. Sorry about your mom. My heart goes out to you...

P.P.S. Sending pats on the head to your precious dogs from Aunt Gail. :)

Thanks Gail! Sounds like dogs have touched your life in a very personal way!! They do that. It's what they're best at.
The prison program is pretty cool. I guess I should do a few more posts on the great things dogs do for us. Thanks for the feedback.

When I read stories like this I am always amazed at how much we can learn from dogs. There was a tv show not long ago that chronicled the same sort of service, but instead of school children, it was prisons. It had the same positive effect on the incarcerated that these children experienced.

Luckily, I realized the love of dog early in my life the year after my family had experienced a terrible tragedy, and I've held onto that my entire life. I don't think I will ever live my life without a dog.

Great post. Very encouraging.

Spenser (RIP) was an abundant source for training opportunities, but in the end, we did succumb to limiting our walks and interaction with dogs and people outside the family. I still feel guilty about it to this day. He was just much more dog than we could handle and so out of control that I felt he would not fare well with anyone else.

We sent him to a well-known training facility that did virtually nothing for him. All he learned were the hand commands for sit, down, and shake paw. But he didn't want to just shake your paw, he wanted to devour your hand once he had it in his clutches. Oy!

Well, I'm rambling now, but I wish I had known you earlier in Spenser's early days. Maybe you could have helped us. :( Keep up the good work. There are so many dogs out there that need you!
